The Native American Song and Food Festival was great fun and well attended. Many families and staff brought and served food. The Cherokee cultural class, under the direction of Darlene Littledeer, The Cherokee Baptist Choir under the direction of DJ McCarter, and The Cherokee Adult Choir under the direction of Fay Morrison performed their beautiful music in their native language. Greg Bilby blessed us with storytelling and pulled unexpecting volunteers from the crowd resulting in a delightful story. Yogi Bread did a fantastic job emceeing the event. We were also blessed to have National Treasures from the Cherokee Nation: Kathy Van Buskirk – Baskets Perry Van Buskirk – Traditional Weapons Danny McCarter – Traditional Weapons Noel Grayson – Traditional Weapons Troy Jackson – Pottery The UKB Museum brought a treasure chest with treats for the students and gave out arrowhead necklaces. We were also honored to have distinguished guests with us. Previous Principal Chief Joe Byrd, Councilwoman Sasha Blackfox Qualls, and Cherokee ambassadors Grace Thomas, Skye Rodwell, and Ryan Altaffer. Mary Chanate brought a group of Native American singers and dancers that finished the evening in fine fashion. Grand View is a very blessed school to have so many talented people.

Grand View students celebrated World Kindness day! Students decorated the halls and shared their ideas on ways to be kind and staff rewarded students who were “caught” doing kind deeds. 6th graders made kindness flowers for the middle school. The school came together to weave a “kindness quilt” for the cafeteria–each section of the “quilt” was hand made by a different student or teacher. Thank you to Mrs. Hatley, Mrs. White, Ms. Carroll, Mrs. Mae and Mrs. Scott for making this day happen!
