Twenty-two third graders recently had an opportunity to read, "How to Eat Fried Worms" in the Literacy Lab. The students then worked with the literacy lab mentors to create their very own "worm recipes!" We ended our study by comparing and contrasting the 1998 movie with the book, and enjoying yummy, wiggly treats! We are very proud of our creative and hard-working students!

There will be no after school on Thursday, March 14. Parent pickup for 1st-4th grade students without ELC or Middle school siblings will take place in the gravel parking lot. If 1st-4th grade students have ELC or Middle school siblings they will be picked up at their normal location.

Last week was Read Across America week which aims to promote reading through events and partnerships among children and teens across the nation! Grand View celebrated by encouraging reading and literacy across all grades. We enjoyed themed dress-up days, like Wacky Wednesday, and had guest readers come and read to our students. Older grades had the opportunity to visit our younger grades and do one-on-one reading with a reading buddy.
Each student took home their very own Dr. Seuss book, thanks to the Innovative Approach to Literacy grant! Students who "got caught reading" received fun prizes. What a great week!

The Literacy Fair is Tuesday, March 12th from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Grand View gym. Author Dennis Mathew will be speaking and each student attending will receive a book.
