Good afternoon Grand View Family.
We, at Grand View School, are very happy to take a short time out of our studies, to celebrate each child’s birthday and appropriate holidays. However, we need you to understand that there are rules established by the Oklahoma Legislature that promote healthy snack options, which align with United States Department of Agriculture Child Nutrition guidelines. And as part of our Return to Learn Plan, Grand View School has also had to limit campus guests due to COVID.
For more than 4 school years, Grand View School has followed the USDA and OKSDE guidance for snacks. Identified food treats are called Smart Snacks. This has qualified our school for special grants and funding, as we followed our School Wellness Policy aligned with those guidelines. These awards we’ve received are only available to schools that follow standards set forth by the Oklahoma State Department of Education, or a granting organization.
Grand View’s approved choices for classroom celebrations can be found on the school website.
This year, Valentine’s Day events will be held at 2:30 on Monday, February 14. If you send snacks with your student, make sure they are from the Smart Snack list on our website.
It is also important to note that we do not accept deliveries for gifts, flowers, balloons and packages for students. In addition to campus visitor limitations, we have learned that the manpower, space, and disruption to main office procedures have all influenced this decision. As importantly to you and your child, we don’t want their gifts damaged, lost or stolen, either in transit or when the child takes them to the bus or after-school. By presenting your gifts as part of a family celebration at home, you are able to see your child’s excitement when you present them with the gift.
Finally, please remember that you should work with your child’s teacher to schedule any classroom celebration. Realize that birthday celebrations will need to be scheduled for the last 20 minutes, of the last school day of the week. There may also be more than one celebration going on that day if another child has a birthday or if the holiday celebration falls on that day.
