Dear Grand View school family,
We, members of the Grand View Board of Education, wanted to share exciting news about our district. During Monday night’s special school board meeting, we approved the hire of Ryan Cottrell, who is currently the Tenkiller Public Schools superintendent. We are excited to welcome Mr. Cottrell to the school district this coming summer.
Mr. Cottrell brings more than two decades of experience in education to his role as superintendent. We are excited about the shared commitment to uniting students, staff and communities around a vision of student success
As a collaborative and student-centered educator, Mr. Cottrell has focused on curriculum alignment and developed strong community partnerships to expand opportunities for the students in his districts.
Mr. Cottrell began his career in education teaching and coaching at Fairland Public Schools in 2004 where he served as the department chair for social studies. After 14 years at Fairland, he later moved to Florida in 2018 and then Pennsylvania in 2021, where he gained experience as an administrator and led alternative education programs.
Inspired to move back to Oklahoma in 2022, he accepted the position of Oaks Mission junior high and high school principal. At Oaks Mission, he supervised more than 20 teachers and staff, strengthened community and district relationships, and managed budgets for federal and state programs.
In July 2024, Mr. Cottrell accepted his current position as Tenkiller Public Schools superintendent. Since taking the helm, he has fostered positive partnerships between the district and community and tribal leaders with the goal of expanding academic opportunities for students and promoting student achievement. He spearheaded continuous improvement at Tenkiller, aligning district priorities with state standards and accreditation requirements.
Mr. Cottrell earned his bachelor’s in social studies education from Northeastern State University in 2004 and went on to earn his master’s in education leadership from East Central University in 2012. He is also working towards a Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation from Purdue University.
We can’t wait to see what great things Mr. Cottrell will accomplish alongside our district team, teachers, students and community members.
With help from the Oklahoma State School Boards Association (OSSBA), the board selected Mr. Cottrell from a competitive pool of candidates. OSSBA has helped facilitate superintendent searches across the state, working with other school board associations throughout the country to ensure quality applicants.
Thank you to the parents, staff and community members who participated in the superintendent search survey. Your responses were incredibly valuable as we navigated the search process and narrowed down candidates to a district leader who values our district and community and who will help our district continue to grow and provide new, exciting opportunities for our students.
Sincerely,
Members of the Grand View Board of Education
