Grand View News

There have been many faculty changes since the last school year. Some staff moved and others are new at our school. We interviewed Maurilio Sierra(8th grade math lab), Addison Miller(3rd grade language arts), Charles Arnall(5th grade math), and Katie Barnes(1st grade) about this new year. We asked each teacher different questions

Our first question for new staff was, “What type of content do you want to teach your students that isn’t usually taught?” Mr. Sierra said, "he wants his students to learn about personal loan percentage rates in order to prepare them for future finances." Another response we received from Mrs. Miller, She said,  "I want my students to learn the differences between their/there/they’re, to/too/two and other homophones." Our last two people received a different question since they were staff that changed positions. Our question was, “What improvements do you want to make to the way you teach?” Once more, we received different responses. Mr. Arnall answered saying, "I want to improve in communication with the 5th graders. It’s very important for children to have a wonderful teacher." Our final response was from Mrs. Barnes. She said, I want to incorporate more hands-on activities into my teaching."

Our next question was, “What is one thing you want to experience with your students?” Mr. Sierra said, "I want to experience a positive learning environment to set high standards. Mrs. Miller wants to bond with her students and be the best teacher possible so they’ll remember her. Mr. Arnall said, I want to experience success with my students. Mrs. Barnes wanted her kids to experience a love for reading with her.

Our next question is, “Why did you want to teach?” Mr. Sierra said he wanted to teach because of his personal philosophy which is, “Older generations are responsible for passing down knowledge to younger generations and should serve as a stepping stone to a better future.” Mrs. Miller said teaching was always a thing she wanted to do since she was little. Mr. Arnall said he wanted to teach because he was already in public ed for 40 years so he wanted to put his skills to good use. Mrs. Barnes said she loved smaller schools and the family feeling they had.

Our final question was, “How well is the school year going so far?” Mr. Sierra said it’s going fine but could always be better. Mrs. Miller said it’s going well and she’s happy teaching 3rd grade again. Mr. Arnall said it’s going good with the help of other teachers and it's getting better. Our final response was from Mrs. Barnes, she said it’s going good and she's very excited.

We’re excited for this school year and for what's it’s going to bring. Our teachers and students have been working very hard for this year to go well. We hope this year we can have a safe, fun learning environment.
