Kids learn about past in visit to Thompson House

E ach year local fourth-graders get the opportunity to learn about life before statehood at the Thompson House History Day Camp. Led by local historian Beth Herrington, Grand View students spent their Tuesday making cornbread, washing clothes on washboards, learning to spin a top and playing old parlor games.

Grand View School gets grant for Cherokee language

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Grand View School is teaching students about the Cherokee history, culture and language thanks to a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The school is one out of 10 to receive the grant that supports Native American and Alaska Native children who are English-learning students, according to a DOE statement.

Grand View plants 10 oak trees

Grand View School's Leadership Class recently fulfilled the first phase in its efforts to improve the playground area by planting 10 oak trees. The mature trees were donated and delivered by Sooner Plant Farm owner, Brian Chojnacki, who also gave the students a lesson about the proper way to plant and care for a tree.
